Wow. You brought up something that caught my attention:

The irony of a "black" browser. Earlier I thought of Blackbird and when I first heard of it I felt, "Well this might be good... If it has any incentive to teach about technology to those from poorer inner-city school systems that don't prepare minorities. And if there is any incentive on it having to do with affordable tech/computing."

When you brought up the potential for it to bury "non-black" or "not-black-friendly" content, suddenly my perspective shifted and I could see where the technology could be used to erase historical episodes that are important to view.

My grandfather was Jewish, for example. While images of the Holocaust are unsettling, it's important to remember the history so that it is not repeated. It's also important to remember those events so that the victims of those horrific and evil events in history [living and deceased] can be recognized. It's important to show the survival of cultures against ugly and evil acts that are completely retarded and insane. If content which is not politically correct and either has racist under-tones or something can be buried... Well then you have more and more stupidity come out into the open- For example, a noose being left at a campus in a provocative fashion as was described once on the national news within the last couple of years. OR you could have other racist acts afterwards like the time where a crazy guy brought in a gun to the "Schindler's List" movie and shot a woman in the back OR a time when a high-school class had laughed through "Schindler's List" offensively. Even negative stereotypes can be reinforced to draw a culture back.

Also, the thought of having a "Black" browser seems like a very subtle and "nice" way of putting going back to segregation. Maybe I'm exaggerating and this is like the hilarious monologue in "Chasing Amy" about "Star Wars" being race-war propaganda. (It is software after all- Not a public school or a restaurant or bathroom and no-one is being "forced" to use it.) In one of the last paragraphs where you discussed questions children may ask about why it is called a "black" browser and why there isn't an "asian" or "latin" browser remind me of hearing about segregation in history classes when I was little.

So, as someone white, I thought it was multi-cultural. Now that I see the browser doesn't do much except give itself an african-american theme, I suddenly feel queasy thinking of the potential it can have in cultural damage.

And that's why I look at the browser's concept as tasteless. Then again I may have read way too much science-fiction before I thought of it, but your thoughts on the potential hazardous double-standard for this browser are brilliant and make me think.

I cannot even think like there is special browser for black people. This sounds ridiculous to me and i doubt if this browser is going to be popular or used by the black people.

Umm...wow. I don't know whether to laugh or be outraged. I'll have to think about that. But I don't have to think about whether or not I'll use Blackbird. I'm not interested.

Yes, I was not impressed by Blackbird at all either... And you know, I doubt its even going to be used by its target audience. I'd love to see some usage statistics in a month or so... (I bet they won't be releasing them.)

No. This is not the same thing. This is not doing what everyone else does just because they're doing it. This is using the same tools others have to keep up and so that you have the same advantages. You don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Even if that knife was made by a black-owned or black-targeted business, you will still lose.

More lock-in. I don't find that very cool....not cool at all.

On another note, Flock makes perfect sense to use for some people. It adds value to your interactions with a lot of social services, not just bookmarks to those services. It just doesn't fit for me because of the random stuff I use :)

It is not the tool's purpose to keep up with "us". The tool isn't a sentient being. If Blackbird were a web portal, I'd be all over it wit huzzahs and praise. My problem is with the implementation, not the content.

Yes, I stumbled on it by accident when trying to share one of the videos when I was testing it. As much as I like to share things everywhere, that ain't gonna work. The point is to spread #blck media, not trap it in a walled-garden
