LeapFish: Just Type It, But Will Anyone Use It?

Image001LeapFish is a service that provides search results from multiple search engines all in one place. They have connections with all the major search portals like Google, Yahoo, MSN and others. As you type your search, the results are pulled together using their “proprietary hyper-threading technology” in conjunction with the API’s of each service. Basically, LeapFish is a meta search engine.

We’ve created the first multi-dimensional information aggregator and search portal in the world. Our goal is to gather, organize and render the most relevant information from the internet’s most valuable destinations for each users search, in one single simple shot.

In addition to bringing all your search results to one place, Leapfish also brings you videos, photos, and news related to your search queries. You can even hover over the images and videos to view them immediately inside of Leapfish.

There are those that believe services like LeapFish, Search.com, Dogpile, and others are not innovative and not useful. I would bet that the people saying so have no problems finding things online. They know where to find things when the major search engines don’t give them what they want. This argument is similar to the one surrounding the BlackBird web browser, which I’ve covered here.

Can LeapFish be helpful to some people? I think so. I don’t believe your standard search is always the best solution. Even Google has different types of searches for Blogs, Images, and Videos, for example. LeapFish is simply trying to overcome this fragmentation of the web by providing a multi-dimensional approach. I also like how they have done away with the “search” button and provide results as you type.

Will it take the place of your standard search engine? I doubt it, but it could definitely be a useful tool as we try to sort and filter information in the future. Check out this video to see LeapFish in action:
